FURTHER LOCAL COUNCILS ACROSS THE COUNTRY COME ON STREAM WITH THE ASA
25 Jul 2008 15:34

Further local government offices across the country are signing up to work in partnership with the asa to boost the standard of swimming provision in their area.

London Borough of Enfield, City of London, Cotswold District Council and Sefton Borough Council have all signed deals which will see them working alongside the national governing body for swimming to implement the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).

The National Plan is a template for learn to swim schemes, and means the organisations will use the highest quality syllabus and awards system. The plan is a comprehensive and progressive teaching programme based upon sound technical and educational principles.

The NPTS will run alongside the Kellogg’s asa Awards Scheme and looks set to benefit the children and adults who currently access the swimming lessons across all of the centres each week.

Business Team Manager at the asa Mandy Mason is pleased to welcome the new partners on board.

"The asa is committed to providing our partners with the support they need to deliver quality learn to swim programmes,” she said. “We are pleased to welcome our new partners from local government on board and our Business Team will be working closely with them to ensure they build on their current success whilst using the National Plan for Teaching Swimming and the Kellogg's asa Awards Scheme."

The asa supports 1,600 affiliated swimming clubs through a National/Regional/County structure. The asa aims to ensure everybody has an opportunity to learn to swim.

The Kellogg’s asa Awards Scheme is the most successful awards scheme in British sport and issues around two million awards every year to swimmers all around the world.
